The Young Lords Organization started out as a Chicago Puerto Rican street gang and became politicized under the influence of the Black Panther Party. The Young Lords Party in New York City started as a chapter and then spun off on its own. I sold the Chicago lords’ newspaper, Pitirre at my high school and helped with some projects (like the People’s Park, pictured in the poster).
