I made this satirical poster in 2012, amidst a rash of proposed voting restrictions (including so-called “Voter ID” laws) in the United States.
The wine bottle on the left, vintage 1969, shows a quote from then-President Richard Nixon. “The whole problem really is the blacks… the key is to recognize this without appearing to.”
The bottle on the right features words from a right-wing architect of modern “Voter ID” laws. “I don’t want everybody to vote… as a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down.”
Racism from the U.S. government: the same old slime with a new label.
