RLM made this poster when, in 2014, local authorities arrested and charged 11 Black Lives Matter organizers. All had taken part in a massive demonstration against police killings at the Mall of America, one of the United States’ largest centers of retail capitalism, a few miles away from our studio. Mall management and Bloomington, MN police demanded (unsuccessfully) that the organizers also pay the cost of breaking up the rally with riot squads. After a nationwide outcry, embarrassed prosecutors eventually dropped all the trumped up charges.
