Fred Hampton

This poster memorializes the talented young Black Panther leader, Fred Hampton.

The text reads: Fred Hampton was the Chairman of the Chicago chapter of the Black Panther Party. He was a charismatic leader in the Black community with an ability to build alliances across racial divisions. He was targeted by local and federal police authorities. Before dawn on December 4, 1969 he was shot to death in a rain of police bullets as he slept in his apartment. He was twenty-one years old.

RLM cites Fred Hampton and his death as one of the major influences on his trajectory towards art and activism. You can read his essay, “Remembering Chairman Fred,” here.

One of his earliest posters, we print this on 11×17 cream-colored stock.
