Amilcar Cabral
Amilcar Cabral led the successful anti-colonial struggle in Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde against a Portuguese occupation. The money and arms of the United States backed the Portuguese military.
Cabral’s analyses of culture, identity and popular resistance profoundly influenced struggles across Africa. I continue to find his writings important to me, and have read and reread my dogeared copies of his essays and speeches over the years. With this poster, I am thrilled to finally do my small part to pay tribute to a great teacher.
The text reads: “The national liberation of a people is the regaining of the historical personality of that people, its return to history through the destruction of the imperialist domination to which it was subjected.”
