This poster honors marine biologist, naturalist and author Rachel Carson. She helped spark modern environmental consciousness with her famous 1962 book, “Silent Spring.”
Environmentalists credit Carson with helping bring about the banning of the pesticide DDT. In turn, this ban contributed to a stunning revival of the U.S. bald eagle population, among other species recoveries. She was the object of viscous attacks from the pesticide industry, which unsuccessfully sought to destroy her career and her credibility.
